Seattle, WA. – July 13, 2009 – The Moyer Foundation (www.moyerfoundation.org), founded by Major League Baseball World-Series champion Jamie Moyer and his wife Karen, raised nearly $200,000 to help children in distress at its 3rd annual Celebrity Golf Classic event held July 12th and 13th at Suncadia Resort’s private Tumble Creek Golf Course in Cle-Elum, Washington.
On Sunday, the 12th, a celebrity pairing party dinner and auction was held at the Lodge at Suncadia where guests were paired with participating team celebrities - including Mark Rypien, Dave Krieg, Digger Phelps, Neil Lomax, Bode Miller, Jeff Cirillo, Kasey Keller, James Donaldson, Jason Gesser, Nesby Glasgow, Dave Grosby, Scott Hatteberg, Brian Jennings, David Kirtman, Bill Krueger, Randall Morris, Jamie Moyer, and Jack Thompson.
Twenty-two teams of five competed in the tournament. First place winners BNBuilders Inc. played with MLB star, former Seattle Mariner Dave Valle; second place went to Seattle Seahawks legend David Krieg and the Value Village team, and third place went to World Cup and Olympic alpine ski champion Bode Miller’s team from Pinnacle - An American Management Services Company.
“It’s great to be home in Seattle for one of my favorite Foundation events,” said Jamie Moyer. “We are grateful to all of the celebrities who give their time to support this event, and especially to Suncadia for the exclusive opportunity to host the event at Tumble Creek. It’s a great opportunity to connect with the community, have fun and help make a difference for kids in our community.”
Funds raised during the two-day event benefit programs and initiatives of The Moyer Foundation including Camp Mariposa, a first-of-its-kind camp launched in 2007 designed specifically for children who are impacted by addiction in their families. The weekend-long camp brings together traditional camp activities combined with professional counseling and support groups that teach a variety of coping strategies and self-care techniques. The camp is run in partnership with Youth Eastside Services nine times per year.
"Events like our Celebrity Golf Tournament provide the opportunity for us to raise awareness about critical issues that affect children in distress in our community. Camp Mariposa is making a positive impact in their futures, and we are thrilled to be a part of creating and expanding this resource so more kids can get the help and support they need to help end the cycle of addiction,” said Karen Moyer, co-founder of The Moyer Foundation.
The Moyer Foundation is one of the only non-member tournaments allowed at Suncadia’s private Tumble Creek Golf Course.
