The Gregory Fund

In May 2003, The Moyer Foundation created The Gregory Fund, a new initiative to raise awareness of and funds for early cancer detection research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

"The Gregory Fund was inspired by Gregory Chaya, a cancer survivor I met in 1993. The Hutchinson Center saved Gregory's life with a second bone marrow transplant and they continues to save thousands of lives today. Establishing this fund in Gregory's name to support early detection is a dream come true."
- Jamie Moyer

Jamie and Gregory developed a special bond through Gregory’s battle with Leukemia, and continued to stay in touch after Gregory’s life-saving transplant at the Hutchinson center. Jamie was inspired by Gregory’s brave spirit and positive attitude amidst such adversity. Being a part of Gregory’s story and his struggle was a life-changing experience for both Jamie and his wife Karen.

"When you see a child go through the pain of fighting cancer, you can’t help but to be inspired to do what you can to try and make a difference—so that no child, no person should have to suffer. Gregory was that inspiration for us, and we are thrilled to be able to partner with the Hutchinson Center to support this critical research, and increase awareness in the community about the importance of early detection."
- Karen Moyer

Early detection provides one of the most promising opportunities to reduce cancer deaths. As a leader of more national and international consortia for early detection than any other center, the Hutchinson Center in Seattle is uniquely positioned to be the first institution to make major achievements in this area.

"When cancer is discovered at an early stage, nearly every patient is cured while the opposite is true for cancer detected at a late stage. The Hutch will lead the way in early detection. We have a terrific group of very talented scientists who are international leaders in research on early cancer detection."
- Lee Hartwell, Ph.D., President & Director, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
