Establish Camp Erin in your Community
The Moyer Foundation is committed to expanding Camp Erin nationwide, with a goal of establishing more than 50 camps by 2012. This expansion is made possible by partnering with local bereavement experts such as hospitals, hospices and bereavement organizations. We value our Camp Erin partners and consider each group to be vital contributors to the national Camp Erin network, helping to establish Camp Erin as a nationally-recognized resource for community healing and growth.
Becoming a Camp Erin partner is much more than a financial commitment. The Moyer Foundation provides multi-year guidance, support and relationships to assist partner organizations in growing their services to help more grieving youth.
Below is a brief outline of the partnership model and the resources provided by The Moyer Foundation to Camp Erin partners:
Financial
The Moyer Foundation’s initial commitment to each Camp Erin agency is a grant in the amount of $100,000; dispersed over a 10-year period. Each year’s funding is contingent upon positive results as reported in post camp evaluations.
Camp Erin Program Model
The Moyer Foundation has worked with nationally recognized bereavement experts to create the Camp Erin Best Practices Guide which encompasses all aspects of running a successful program from start up to pre camp, camp weekend and post camp. While partners are required to meet certain programmatic benchmarks, all are encouraged to create an experience unique to the needs of the grieving children and teens in the communities they serve.
The Camp Erin Best Practices Guide is reserved for those groups that are part of the Camp Erin network
.
Education and Networking
Partners enjoy the benefit of becoming part of a larger network of national bereavement experts which facilitates the sharing of information and best practices through centralized and ongoing communication.
Marketing and Branding
The Moyer Foundation provides camp partners with official Camp Erin brand elements and collateral – logos, brochures, PSAs, photos, bereavement information/statistics, and other templates for marketing and advertising to be used by partners for local marketing and promotional efforts.
Public Relations and Media
The Moyer Foundation’s international PR team leads ongoing efforts to target national print and broadcast outlets as well as targeted local outreach to support the launch of each new camp and local fundraising efforts. The Moyer Foundation provides partners with press release templates, talking points, quotes from experts, advocates and leadership to help support local camps in their own PR efforts.
Relationship Building
Partners enjoy the benefits of being part of a national network of support that includes association with more than 70 celebrity advocates, MLB/and pro team contacts as well as nationally-recognized bereavement experts. These individuals help raise awareness and support for Camp Erin in many ways by helping to shine a spotlight on children’s bereavement and the need to support issues related to unresolved childhood grief while also raising the profile of local Camp Erin programs and partners.
Application Process and Grant Timing
The Moyer Foundation completes extensive research on bereavement leaders such as hospices, hospitals and stand alone bereavement agencies in each community where Camp Erin is to be established. These groups are invited to complete the Camp Erin Request for Proposal (RFP) application. The RFP’s are due July 1 a year prior to the camp’s scheduled opening.
Upon receipt, all RFPs are thoroughly reviewed by The Moyer Foundation’s Camp Erin Review Committee. The National Camp Erin Project Director and The Moyer Foundation Executive Director conduct site visits to the top candidates in each city during Q3, Q4. Final decisions for Camp Erin partnership are typically completed by the end of November prior to the camp’s scheduled opening.
