Inheritance of Hope's mission is to inspire hope in young families facing the loss of a parent. The 501(c)(3) charity was founded by Kristen and Deric Milligan following several years of coping with the challenges of raising three young children while battling Kristen’s terminal liver cancer diagnosis.Sadly, Kristen lost her courageous bout with cancer in 2012, but her legacy lives on as Inheritance of Hope uniquely serves families like her own.Inheritance of Hope is a faith-based organization – welcoming families of all faiths and backgrounds while serving under the core beliefs of the Christian faith.
It’s more than a trip -- they bring families together from across the country, families who actually understand the challenges of your situation. They provide legacy development resources, volunteers who are eager to help with everything from childcare to carrying luggage, and hope -- all to help you thrive despite the uncertainty you face. You get time as a family as well as sessions designed for each member of your family -- diagnosed parent, caregiver, and children of all ages. Licensed counselors are also available throughout your Retreat.
Inheritance of Hope’s signature offering is the Legacy Retreat®, an all-expenses-paid experience where families with children under 18 create lifelong memories while receiving the tools to navigate the challenges of a parent's terminal illness. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage applying now.
Inheritance of Hope has also created an amaizng Legacy Book and provides additional resources for anticipatory grief.
The Death of a loved one is a painful, often overwhelming, experience at any age. Amidst coping with your own grief, you may be faced with talking to your child about death and dying, and might find that you struggle with the question: "Should my child attend the funeral?"
