Northwestern Settlement’s mission is to Nurture, Educate and Inspire children and families in need, so they can take responsibility and attain self-sufficiency. Since 1891, the organization has served as a dynamic and innovative leader in creating transformational opportunities for children and families to disrupt generational poverty.

The Settlement provides a host of programs and services for the community including early childhood education and youth programs, food assistance for families in need, a Family CARES Center and youth programming at the Settlement’s House in the Woods campground.  In June 2017, Northwestern Settlement partnered with Children’s Home + Aid to provide free, bilingual on-site mental health counseling and family wellness services to members of the Settlement community.

Northwestern Settlement is Eluna’s Camp Mariposa and Camp Erin Chicago partner.

Camp Mariposa is a free, weekend camp program for children ages 9-12. At camp, youth participate in fun, traditional camp activities combined with education and support sessions led by trained professionals and adult mentors. Additional social and educational activities are offered for youth, and their families throughout the year. Youth who attend Camp Mariposa learn coping skills that build resiliency and break the cycle of addiction.  Please visit our Camp Mariposa Map for camp dates.

Camp Erin is the largest national bereavement program for youth grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Children and teens ages 6-17 attend a transformational weekend camp that combines traditional, fun camp activities with grief education and emotional support, free of charge for all families. Led by grief professionals and trained volunteers, Camp Erin provides a unique opportunity for youth to increase levels of hope, enhance self-esteem, and especially to learn that they are not alone. Please visit our Camp Erin Map for camp dates.
